Parliament remembers the four soldiers killed at CFB Wainwright, one by one
Prime Minister Mark Carney gave each soldier his own tribute, from a chess player with army plans to a sergeant who had served with NATO in Latvia.

House honours CFB Wainwright victims
The House of Commons stood in silence Monday for the soldiers killed and injured in the weekend fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta. Then Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke about the four who died, one at a time, as their photos appeared on screen.
"Private Goulding met every hardship with a joke," he said of Private Aiden Goulding. Private Sean Farrell was remembered as a generous, loyal friend, a chess player with plans for a military career. Private Hayden Lukemark hoped to go into law enforcement. "He and Private Farrell were best friends, seldom seen apart," Carney said. Sergeant Morgan Wong had served with NATO in Latvia, and his family remembers him as someone who was always there for those who needed him.
The Globe and Mail's description says Carney told the House that MPs were "united in grief." Thirty-nine other soldiers were injured, 19 of them critically. The clip closes with his promise: "We will honour them always."
The tribute is under two minutes long and drew about 77,000 views in its first nine hours, far more than the paper's Shorts usually draw in a full day. The comments fill with condolences and thanks for the soldiers' service, many written from towns across the country.
It was not the only Wainwright video viewers sought out. The Globe's explainer on how the fire spread passed 130,000 views, and Pierre Poilievre's account of soldiers running toward the fire also drew a large audience. Poilievre represents the Wainwright area. Together they more than quadrupled the channel's usual daily views, on the same day the paper was also covering Alberta's referendum vote.
