Futcrunch gives the football pump an hour to cause trouble
Safety glasses and ear protection join a timed inflation challenge that has drawn nearly seven million views in less than two days.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 5,728,051 views a day, 5.4 times a normal first day on this channel (1,060,565).
1 Second VS 1 Hour Football
The pump keeps going. Futcrunch starts with deflated soccer balls and an electric pump, then works through increasingly long inflation times until protective gear becomes part of the outfit.
In "1 Second VS 1 Hour Football", the shortest attempt produces a ball he calls "Absolutely useless." The next still folds under a kick. By the minute-long test, he is juggling something he describes as "rock solid," before sending it into the camera.
All of this happens in a Portugal jersey, with a life-size Cristiano Ronaldo cardboard cutout standing behind him. Ronaldo has the quieter assignment.
The Short's estimated first-day audience was more than five times Futcrunch's usual start for the format. It is a different kind of equipment test from his Neymar upload: rather than asking what an elite player can control, he is seeing what a pump can do to the ball itself.
Viewers are picking apart the demonstration as well as the kicks. Some question whether the partially inflated ball deserves the blame for the missed attempt; another jokes that the final test includes an exceptionally long retreat from the pump.
Futcrunch has already extended the premise to a differently shaped ball, posting "1 Second VS 1 Hour American Football" the following day.
