  5. 10:12Bavuma faces the hat-trick delivery; the outcome comes here.

Aiden Markram loses his middle stump. David Bedingham edges his first delivery to Alex Carey. Suddenly, Temba Bavuma is walking out to face Scott Boland with a hat-trick waiting to happen.

Fox Cricket's replay of Boland's opening spell against South Africa has drawn about 187,000 views in sixteen hours, far beyond the channel's usual first-day audience. It follows the Australian bowler's return to the Test side at St George's Park in Gqeberha, and leaves the buildup intact rather than cutting straight to the wickets.

That matters here. Boland begins with a maiden, probing outside off stump before the breakthrough arrives in his second over. The delivery to Markram cuts back into the stumps; Bedingham's outside edge gives Carey the next catch.

"That's what he does, Boland! When he's on a roll, he just rolls and rolls!" calls Mark Howard.

Bavuma survives the hat-trick delivery, struck on the pads by a ball sliding down the leg side. The title promises a hat-trick ball, not a hat-trick, and the clip gives that moment its full buildup.

There is a selection story around the spell, too. Fox Cricket had posted a panel discussion asking whether Boland or Nathan Lyon should get the nod. In the replay's comments, viewers ask why Boland does not have a more regular place in Australia's attack, while others single out the first wicket and Howard's commentary. One is still waiting for a statue.

The numbers

Boland's opening-spell replay has already passed Fox Cricket's usual full first-day audience by a wide margin. Its comment section is also much busier than a typical new upload's.
