Twenty years of Dexter: Trinity, Brian and a Thanksgiving of yams

The anniversary compilation runs nearly half an hour, from 'Surprise!' to a final chapter that asks whether Dexter is an addict.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

"Dexter's Fan-Favorite Moments 💉🩸 20th Anniversary" is the official Dexter channel's birthday present to its own show: close to half an hour of scenes chosen for the series that first aired on Showtime in October 2006. The chapters read like a map of the Miami years. There is Dexter against Trinity, John Lithgow's family-man killer, and Dexter against Brian, the brother from the first season. Deb discovers his secret. Miguel goes mad. And a chapter called "I'm Thankful For Yams" sits right in the middle.

The comment section has turned into a long party. Many viewers simply wish the show a happy twentieth, and some say they have watched since the first season aired. The most discussed comment is a body-count ranking of the show's killers, which has drawn dozens of replies arguing over the totals. Others swap their own favorite moments, and a few are already looking ahead to a second season of Dexter: Resurrection, the New York continuation with Michael C. Hall back in the lead.

The compilation became the week's busiest of three uploads. A short with the familiar line "The truth is, I'm the predator" started faster on its first day and then settled behind it. The channel as a whole ran a little above its usual pace, at about 1.3 million views for the week.

Among TV network and streaming channels of similar size, NBC and Channel 4.0 had the big weeks, while Dexter's own network, SHOWTIME, held almost exactly to its normal pace. Dexter landed in the middle of the group, a steady place for a show celebrating two decades.
