Why this story? The whole channel is running at 1,771,097 views a day, 7.3 times a normal day (242,497).

Doug Walker has opened Nostalgia-Ween, the Nostalgia Critic's yearly Halloween season, with a film the description calls Tim Burton's worst: Dark Shadows. In the 2012 comedy, Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins, an 18th-century vampire who is dug up in 1972 and finds his family's fishing empire in ruins. It was Burton's big-screen take on Dark Shadows, Dan Curtis's gothic soap opera that ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971, and the description asks the Critic's usual question: how much does it suck?

The rest of the week's shelf is a campfire. Walter Banasiak's Midnight Mania is working through Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? one tale at a time. In "The Tale of the Super Specs," a prankster named Weeds gives his girlfriend joke glasses that show them faceless people from another dimension. In "The Tale of the Nightly Neighbors," Emma Toll becomes convinced the family next door are vampires. Between the two came "The Tale of the Captured Souls," which Banasiak praises for working both as science fiction and as a ghost story. Walker also posted his regular chat with viewers.

The whole channel had a day of close to 1.8 million views, several times its usual quarter of a million. The new episodes are only part of it. Dark Shadows passed 150,000 views in its first two days, and each Midnight Mania tale has a few tens of thousands. It is not clear what brought in the rest. Maybe October sends people back to years of older Critic reviews? Among this week's uploads, Burton's vampire is the one drawing the crowd.
