Crowborough, Katie Hopkins and a Tommy Robinson march in 'England 'Til I Die'
The Channel 4 film follows one man, Liam Tomsett, into the far-right movement around asylum plans for an East Sussex town, and it passed 400,000 views in its first week.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Inside Britain’s Far-Right | England 'Til I Die
Among the documentary and journalism channels closest to its size, Channel 4 Documentaries gathered the second most views of the week, about 2.8 million, behind only RocaNews. Its daily pace ran a little below usual, and the subscriber count held at 1.11 million.
The week's main upload was a heavy one. "Inside Britain’s Far-Right | England 'Til I Die", first shown on Channel 4 in September, follows Liam Tomsett as plans to house asylum seekers arrive in Crowborough, East Sussex. Its chapters move from an emergency council meeting and a "Crowborough says no" protest to his release from police custody, then out to Katie Hopkins, the Green politicians Zack Polanski and Rachel Millward, a Tommy Robinson march in London and finally Brighton. The description warns of very strong and racist language. It drew more than 200,000 views on its first day, and the comments keep coming back to one figure on the edge of the crowd: a local man standing alone with a "Choose Love" sign.
The rest of the week belonged to Love Cheats, the channel's romance fraud series. A new episode from the second season follows a woman in Boca Raton, Florida, who falls for a man posing as an art dealer, with gold coins as the bait. Behind it, a first-season episode about a fake celebrity chef in Scotland, posted nearly two weeks ago, is still pulling steady daily views of its own.
