cdotkom buys toddler toys to give Luigi sunglasses
A wooden-block unboxing becomes an amiibo experiment as the Nintendo creator reaches 800,000 subscribers.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 457,443 views a day, 8.9 times a normal first day on this channel (51,220).
I Bought Mario's Toddler Toys...
Can a toddler's wooden toy double as a Switch accessory? That's what cdotkom wants to know, and the answer involves a considerably cooler-looking Luigi.
In "I Bought Mario's Toddler Toys...", he unboxes Nintendo's My Mario Luigi Wood Block Set, then puts its amiibo functionality to work. The Short drew about 214,000 views in eight hours, already several times the channel's usual full-day audience for the format.
This isn't quite a collector buying everything on the shelf. "These are wooden blocks. I thought about buying the full set, but then I looked in a mirror," cdotkom says. Luigi alone makes the cut, and the construction earns his approval: "They are surprisingly well made. I will not be getting splinters."
The real curiosity is what the figure does in a game. He tests it in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, then scans it in Hello, Luigi!, where the reward is sunglasses for Luigi. Viewers pick up on that makeover, while one asks whether he could speedrun all the Hello, Mario! games.
The unboxing also catches a milestone in progress. He thanks viewers while the channel is still approaching 800,000 subscribers; it has since reached that mark, with a separate stream titled "Stream Ends After I Hit 800,000 Subscribers!" marking the occasion.
