Bryan swaps a cruise-ship paycheck for a passenger bill

His plan to make ships his home starts with a cheap fare, then gratuities, internet and a surprisingly costly Diet Coke.

Why this story? The whole channel is running at 329,286 views a day, 6.3 times a normal day (52,300).

Bryan knows how to live aboard a cruise ship. What he is learning this time is how to pay for it.

In "My First Day Living On A Cruise Ship," the longtime crew member becomes a paying guest, discovering how quickly an appealing fare grows once gratuities, internet and everyday treats enter the picture. His example is wonderfully ordinary: a can of Diet Coke costs $4.20.

The change of perspective comes as Bryan and Jaidyn's channel draws roughly 330,000 views in a day, more than six times its usual daily audience. The first-day vlog has already attracted a substantial audience since arriving two days ago, though that channel-wide jump includes views across their videos.

There is a bigger rearrangement behind this experiment. In the description of "We Left Our First Virgin Voyages Cruise Early," Bryan explains that Jaidyn has started working aboard Legend of the Seas out of Barcelona. He cannot yet sail on her ship and does not have a place of his own, so he has decided to try making cruise ships his home, potentially for a year.

His starting point is Norwegian Joy. After spending much of the past decade living aboard ships for work, the surroundings are familiar; the direction of the payments is not. Cruise lines used to pay him to be there. Now he is paying them.

Bryan still thinks the arrangement can work, but his first passenger-side lesson is that he will need to be more creative about which ships he chooses.
