An AI developer in Michael Blaustein's crowd, and viewers with follow-up questions
The comedian's newest crowd-work Short has its comment section asking what the man actually builds, and whether he answered at all.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 432,952 views a day, 17 times a normal first day on this channel (26,042).
AI DEVELOPER REVEALS SECRET! 😳 #standupcomedy
Michael Blaustein's crowd work runs on one simple question: what do you do? In his newest Short, the answer from the audience is a job almost everyone has an opinion about. The man says he works in AI development, and the clip, billed as "AI DEVELOPER REVEALS SECRET!", passed 240,000 views within nine hours of going up on October 8. That is far beyond the usual first day for one of Blaustein's Shorts.
The title promises a secret, but the comment section is more interested in the man himself. The most liked comments wonder whether he was dodging the questions, and many read his work as having to do with voices and audio editing. That sends the thread toward cloned voices and phone scams. Others go straight to science fiction. One viewer brings up Roko's Basilisk, the internet thought experiment about a future AI, and gives it Blaustein's name. The comments came in about four times faster than on a usual first day for his Shorts.
The rest of the channel is having a slower day than usual, which makes this clip stand out even more. It arrives on the eve of a busy weekend. The channel's about text says Blaustein is live-streaming his whole crowd-work show from Boston on October 10, the start of a run of dates through Providence, Virginia, Arizona and Texas, ending in Toronto in December.
The week had already given his viewers plenty to watch. There was a full 27-minute show about a divorce settlement, a Short asking whether Mark Cuban had turned up to his set, and a Plan-B guessing game. The AI developer is the one people stopped to argue about.
