Be Prepared enters the Poolrooms amid a subscriber surge

The Gorilla Tag channel added about 50,000 subscribers in a day, while its daily views rose much more modestly.

Why this story? The channel is adding 50,007 subscribers a day, 129 times a normal day (387).

A few hundred new subscribers would be a normal day's growth for Be Prepared. Its latest gain was about 50,000, a sharp change for a channel whose Gorilla Tag adventures mix virtual playgrounds with horror characters.

The newest upload, "We Found The Poolrooms In Gorilla Tag," swaps the named creatures of recent titles for an unsettling place. The Poolrooms belong to the internet's liminal-space horror world: swimming-pool environments that turn somewhere familiar into somewhere strangely empty.

That is a different invitation from finding Dexter the Dog or surviving Bon the Rabbit, both subjects of the channel's earlier October uploads. Alongside the Poolrooms video is the more cryptic "Watch this video if you have EYES 👀👀#gorillatag #vr," which has drawn hundreds of thousands of views since its release.

Neither upload can be credited with the subscriber jump on these figures alone. Be Prepared's daily views are only modestly above their usual pace, making the sudden change in subscribers the standout part of its day.
