iPhone Duo Is Flopping
A phone can survive the folding test and still leave Austin Sweatt unconvinced. In "iPhone Duo Is Flopping", he separates a visibly deepened screen crease from the other compromises he sees in Apple's folding device.
The Short reached roughly 640,000 views in nine hours, already well beyond his usual full-day audience for the format. Its comments have also surpassed the usual first-day total several times over.
Sweatt starts with Tim Pan's machine-assisted test: 10,000 folds, followed by a noticeably wider crease. But the qualification matters. As Sweatt puts it, "the crease in the middle did get noticeably bigger, but he said everything else functioned pretty normally."
That is not the part Sweatt finds especially troubling. He points out that Samsung's folding phones crease too, then turns to weight, missing cameras and apps that have not been optimized. He also cites Marques Brownlee's review, characterizing its verdict as a recommendation to skip the device. The Short is commentary on reviews and testing, rather than Sweatt's own hands-on test.
Viewers are drawing a similar distinction between a dramatic stress test and living with a phone. Some question how much repeated machine folding says about ordinary use; one folding-phone owner describes the crease becoming unimportant after the initial impression. Others bring the discussion back to a simpler obstacle: the price.
