A court ruling has put Rochas Okorocha forward as the APC's lawful candidate for Imo West, but Hope Uzodimma's camp is not accepting that outcome. Ojy Okpe's Arise News roundup brings together the former governor's response, congratulations from Abdullahi Ganduje and the state government's promise to appeal.
The programme reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja nullified Uzodimma's candidacy and declared Okorocha the lawful candidate. The Imo APC nevertheless insists Uzodimma remains its choice, while the state government calls the judgment a miscarriage of justice. In an interview clip, Okorocha also questions how Uzodimma could move to the Senate while his governorship still has time to run.
There is a revealing contrast in the footage surrounding the dispute. An old clip shows Okorocha dancing with Nyesom Wike at a Rivers State event; another shows former APC national chairman Ganduje congratulating him after the judgment. The panel's discussion centres on shifting political loyalties within the same party, rather than a straightforward government-opposition divide.
The edition passed roughly 113,000 views in its first 14 hours, far beyond the few thousand a regular Arise upload typically draws on its first day. Other political coverage also drew unusually large audiences: Adams Oshiomhole's promise of Senate scrutiny for federal borrowing, and electoral commission ICT director Lawrence Bayode's account of how registration officers introduced AI-generated photographs into the voter register.
The roundup also addresses the Enugu venue dispute involving Peter Obi's NDC. The venue's management denies receiving government instructions to cancel the event. Its account is that a professional body made the booking, political decorations then arrived, and the gathering was ultimately allowed to proceed as a youth town hall. The programme says the NDC had not yet responded to that explanation.
