Tiger attack Yorkshire: Witness describes man’s final moments | 5 News
A 5 News Short usually reaches a few thousand people on its first day. Its report from Yorkshire Wildlife Park passed 430,000 views in 11 hours.
The report, presented by Anna Geary outside the closed park gates in Doncaster, centers on Anthony Hunt. Speaking by phone, he describes seeing a man enter the tiger enclosure at lunchtime on Saturday and the tiger approaching him. "He didn't even seem affected by what was happening," Hunt says. The man, who has not been named and is believed to be in his 20s, was killed by Altai, a Siberian tiger.
Hunt also passes on what another visitor told him: "She said that she tried to stop him. She said she tried to pull him back." Geary notes the flowers left at the entrance.
The report then turns to Will Travers, executive president of Born Free, who warns that people can "blur the edges of reality" about wild animals, and says that is not the relationship we should have with them. The park has confirmed that Altai, a member of an endangered species, will not be euthanized. Doncaster Council has begun a health and safety investigation.
The channel posted the same report a second time, and that copy also drew a large audience. A separate Short covers footage that appears to show the man asking a family to photograph him with the tiger shortly before he entered the enclosure. Beneath the main report, comments arrived far faster than usual, with many discussing whether the tiger should be blamed and questioning the word "attack" in the title.
