Buzzer-beaters, upsets and a new swell: day three of the Ericeira Pro, live
The World Surf League's full broadcast from Portugal's Challenger Series stop drew far more viewers than its own highlights and re-air of the same day.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 156,975 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (14,176).

Day 3 was when the EDP Ericeira Pro came alive, and the World Surf League's live broadcast had close to 100,000 views ten hours after it went up. A long stream on this channel usually ends its first day at around 14,000.
Ericeira, a fishing town on the Atlantic coast northwest of Lisbon, is hosting the fourth stop of the Challenger Series from October 6 to 12. The Challenger Series is the level where surfers chase a place on the Championship Tour. The league's own highlights describe the day: a new swell, a string of buzzer-beaters, the event's first excellent performance and a run of upsets. The top seeds made their first appearance, and their heats closed out the men's Round of 64. The same summary says the race to qualify for the Championship Tour is heating up.
Most people chose the whole broadcast over the shorter versions. A re-air of the same day and the highlights package each had only a few thousand views, a small share of the live stream's crowd.
The channel was covering two contests at once. Half a world away, it also streamed Day 2 of the Tokunoshima Town Pro, a QS 2,000 event at Kedokubama Beach in Japan's Kagoshima Prefecture. It is the last qualifying event of the season held in Japan.
Portugal also showed up in the channel's archive this week. A new Short replays Italo Ferreira flying high on a Portuguese wave last year.
