A $560 Reality Fracture box, opened card by card, for the Professor

The Collector Booster Box game led four uploads, and its comments are busy with Darklight Phoenix, Canadian prices and a very cheeky editor.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Tolarian Community College is the Magic: The Gathering channel run by the Professor, and its total views have now passed 688 million. Four videos went up, all of them about the new Reality Fracture set or the decks around it.

The busiest new upload is "Let's Play The $560.00 Collector Booster Box Game!" The format is a channel ritual: the Professor opens an expensive box, guesses what each card is worth, and keeps a running tally against the price he paid. It passed 300,000 views in three days. The comments know the routine well. Many viewers point out that he always says he won't make his money back and then does. Others say his price guesses only work in Canadian dollars, and a fair share of the attention goes to the editor, who keeps flashing the one big hit on screen. A Darklight Phoenix has plenty of viewers saying he should keep it. Some also mention a moment off the cards, where he talks about keeping the game fun and saving anger for things that matter.

Around it, the week filled in the set. There was a Top 8 of the best new cards, and a short asking whether one card is among the best, cut from a Shuffle Up & Play game with Numot, Jim Davis and Marshall. The newest, "Is it Worth It To Buy A Foundations Commander Deck?", went up on Friday and is pulling in views faster than anything else on the channel, close to 190,000 in its first twelve hours.

Subscribers held level at about 1.33 million, and daily views ran a little above their usual pace. Among anime, comics and tabletop channels, ariki Anime and ZachTheBold are having the loudest weeks. Dimension 20, a fellow dice-and-cards channel, also ran well ahead of its usual pace.

  • my favorite part of these videos is when prof says he wont get over the paid amount only to end up getting over the paid amount
  • To be fair, Prof is nailing each card's price in canadian dollars
