From lagoon foundations to maritime empire, Venice fills This Is History
The channel's Venice documentary approaches 90,000 views during a week without new uploads.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The Entire History of Venice
This Is History left its documentary shelf to do the work, posting nothing new while “The Entire History of Venice” drew the most daily views of its active titles. Released a little over two weeks ago, it accounts for more than half the channel's current daily viewing.
Its subject offers a rather good engineering problem before the empire-building begins: how do you build a city on muddy islands? The documentary describes wooden piles driven into the lagoon floor, then follows Venice from fishing and salt trading to merchant fleets, elaborate republican government and the art of Bellini, Titian and Tintoretto. The final stretch turns to tourism and the floodgates intended to protect the city.
The channel added about 1,000 subscribers over the week, although daily views are currently below their usual pace. Nearby in education, Complexly is enjoying a strong viewing day, while Study of Antiquity and the Middle Ages is quieter than usual.
Venice isn't carrying the whole shelf alone. “The Entire History of the Crusades” remains active three months after publication, and “The Entire History of Spain” continues drawing views more than a year after its release.
