Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

ROBIN VENTURA vs. NOLAN RYAN

Minnesota passed twice. In "You had two chances, Timberwolves!", Clara Morris revisits the 2009 draft, when the Wolves selected Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn before Golden State took Stephen Curry. That is quite a sliding-door moment to leave ajar.

Written and produced by Morris, with direction and editing by Charlotte Atkinson, the new Big Deal episode considers what Curry alongside Kevin Love might have meant for Minnesota. It has reached roughly 70,000 views in its first twelve hours and is drawing the largest daily audience of Secret Base's currently active videos.

The week's most watched upload overall is "ROBIN VENTURA vs. NOLAN RYAN", written and directed by Jon Bois, with about a quarter-million views. Its subject is the famous 1993 mound charge, but viewers are discussing the long road to that encounter: one points to Ventura growing up through newspaper clippings against the backdrop of Ryan's career; another marvels at how much running time remains when the story is already within a year of the incident. Bo Jackson's place in the telling is another recurring talking point.

Those two uploads give the week its baseball-and-basketball shape. An older Joe Ali-produced episode about Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft also continues drawing views, extending the channel's historical catch-up into the Patriots dynasty. But the freshest question belongs to Minnesota: not simply whom the Wolves picked, but the basketball future they left on the board.

What viewers say

The way Ventura is born and grows up in newspaper clippings in the background of Nolan Ryan's baseball career makes it feel like his entire life has been one long slow inevitable mound charge towards Nolan Ryan

This video turned into a Bo Jackson Appreciation Society entry so gradually I hardly even noticed.
