A restaurant owner bans customers who don't tip, and the comments argue about wages

A short clip on Sean Dubs drew nearly 600 comments in its first day, where the channel's shorts usually collect a couple of dozen, and almost all of them are about who should pay the server.

Why this story? The video drew 587 comments in its first day, 26 times a normal first day on this channel (22).

Customers banned by owner for no tip 😲Customers banned by owner for no tip 😲

"Customers banned by owner for no tip 😲" is a short on Sean Dubs, a clips channel that calls itself a storyteller and says everything it posts is licensed or shared with permission. Its feed is a run of everyday standoffs: a truck driver facing a thief, a woman who spots a scam the workers won't believe, a homeless man getting a job. This one puts its premise in the title. A restaurant owner turns away diners who left their server nothing.

The views were ordinary for the channel, close to 50,000 on the first day. The comments were not. Nearly 600 arrived in those 24 hours, where a Sean Dubs short usually gathers a couple of dozen.

The argument is about money and whose job it is to provide it. One side says a tip is optional and has to be earned, so bad food or slow service gets nothing. Many more turn the question back on the owner: pay the staff a decent wage and the tip stops being their paycheck. A few take the other side, warning that menu prices would climb to cover higher wages. An Australian viewer points out that tipping is not expected there at all, and that reply thread became one of the busiest in the section. Others predict the restaurant will not last, and at least one went looking for its online reviews without finding them.
