A Belfast court has ruled that Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Bryant acted lawfully in banning the Drumcree Orange Order parade earlier this month, according to RTÉ News. Portadown District had challenged the decision, but the judge found it fell within the secretary's "margin of discretion".

The ruling adds a legal decision to the Garvaghy Road dispute, following the blockade and subsequent ban we reported here. The long-running disagreement centres on the Orange Order's traditional parade route through a mainly Catholic part of Portadown. The Order is a Protestant fraternal organisation.

Outside court, Garvaghy Road residents' representative Breandán MacCionnaith said their position had been justified. "All we sought was the right that was promised under the Good Friday Agreement: the right to live free from sectarian harassment," he said, describing that right as upheld by the ruling.

Loyalist activist Jamie Bryson offered a different response. He said the Chief Constable's position was that police could not protect the marchers against the risk of disorder. Despite the court's decision, Bryson insisted Portadown District would walk the road in future and exercise what he described as its legal entitlement.

RTÉ's clip drew roughly 5,800 views since yesterday. In a separate report published the following day, the broadcaster described political fallout: DUP leader Gavin Robinson said his party would not approve Michelle O'Neill attending events as First Minister through their joint office. Sinn Féin called the move arrogant and attributed it to internal DUP divisions.
