Daren Bates' rookie tape earns a salute from "Bones" Fassel

Panthers Coach Daren Bates GETS REAL On Special Teams DOGS & Respect In The Locker Room #nfl #shorts
The rookie tape still plays. In Raw Room's special teams Short, John "Bones" Fassel supplies the evidence for Daren Bates' point about respect: the coach is still teaching from his first NFL season.
"I still use his tape from his rookie season in our practice," Fassel says in footage from a rookie minicamp. For Bates, back in the studio during Carolina's bye week, that recognition matters more than whether spectators appreciate the job.
The clip passed 100,000 views in its first 12 hours, already far beyond Raw Room's usual full-day Shorts audience. Its comment section is also much busier than a typical first day, with viewers discussing the nerve required to cover kicks at full speed and what it means for a player's film to remain a teaching tool.
King Dunlap makes the locker-room case plainly: "If there's a special teams ace on your team, he's one of the best players on the team." Bates describes starters watching those plays from the sideline with disbelief and respect, then points to the game balls and jerseys around the studio.
The edit reaches back to an early Raw Room episode for his own origin story: an undrafted rookie trying to earn a Rams job, an intense punt-coverage drill that became a fight, and Jeff Fisher telling him he had seen enough. Bates remembers fearing he was about to be cut, before realizing the coach's reaction meant he had made his case.

It takes a special kind of crazy to hit full sprint, full stride and just LAUNCH yourself at someone.
