Why this story? The channel passed the 1,000,000 subscribers mark.
Can you grow a pineapple in Canada? Char and Marv's answer is right there in their October harvest: small, and, as their video title puts it, "incredibly sweet." That upload has drawn about 1.3 million views as Planted in the Garden reaches a million subscribers.
The pineapple makes an appealing addition to a channel built around getting plenty from limited space. It shares the upload's produce list with watermelon, eggplant, carrots and berries, hardly a modest backyard shopping basket. Across the channel, daily views are running at more than three times their usual level, though that rise cannot be pinned on a single harvest.
The milestone day's new upload returns to peppers. "We're harvesting all kinds of peppers, let's see what the garden gives us!" comes with a roll call stretching from Banana peppers and Habanero to Murasaki and Aji Ayuyo. It is a different crop from the tomato varieties featured earlier this month, but the same pleasure in discovering how much variety a garden can hold.
And the harvest doesn't stop at the tray. In another October upload, Char and Marv describe turning zucchini into savory muffins, chocolate chip muffins and bread, then freezing the results for later. For a channel whose motto includes eating good food and living simply, that's a fitting destination for all that growing.
