Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opens for India with a flurry of sixes

New Zealand Cricket's Short has passed two million views, with Indian batting highlights drawing unusual attention on the host team's channel.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,213,751 views a day, 94 times a normal first day on this channel (12,968).

SO MANY SIXES! Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Opens The Batting For IndiaSO MANY SIXES! Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Opens The Batting For India

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi sends his first ball straight down the ground for four. The next sequence is less about finding gaps than clearing the field altogether: short deliveries disappear over the leg side, and another shot flies over point into the crowd.

New Zealand Cricket's highlight captures an innings of 45 from 19 balls, including four sixes. Even Nathan Smith's diving effort near the boundary cannot bring one of those blows within reach. "The freshness of youth. The brilliance of youth," says a commentator as the shots keep coming.

The Short's opening-day views ran far beyond the channel's usual start. Its comment section was also much busier than normal, with viewers comparing Sooryavanshi's six-hitting to Chris Gayle's and recalling the attacking Sri Lankan opening partnership of Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana.

This is not the only Indian batting clip drawing attention there. A separate upload of Sooryavanshi's first ball in New Zealand has accelerated, while "Abhishek Sharma T20 Hundred From 35 Balls!" also opened well above the channel's usual pace for Shorts.

The Sooryavanshi highlights do leave room for New Zealand's reply. Fisher's first delivery brings a mistimed lofted shot and a catch in the outfield, ending the burst.
