"IT'S JOEVER - Hudson's Adventure Island Finale" is the last stop of a five-part run on NintendoCapriSun, the channel of Tim, a self-described almost-50-year-old who still plays video games and, in his own words, regrets nothing. The series began on October 2 and ended four days later, one episode a day, with the description of the finale promising that the game does get finished, "so thank our lucky stars."
Hudson's Adventure Island is Hudson Soft's 1988 NES platformer, starring Master Higgins, the skateboarding island hero whose energy bar drains unless he keeps eating fruit. Tim bills himself as not super great at it, and the titles keep score: "LET THE PAIN CONTINUE" covers World 6-1, which he calls the second-hardest level in the game, while part two includes a fight with a real fly in the room. Part three brings back a recurring glass of milk and a piece of music he says he always plays on Wind Waker's rocky ridges, which explains why viewers keep mentioning Zelda.
The first episode drew the warmest comment section. Viewers remember losing to this game as kids without knowing the continue trick, laugh at Tim dying right after calling a stage easy, and one reader of the old manual reports that the spinning pigs are officially called Pooters.
The finale is the episode moving fastest now, as late viewers catch up on the ending. But for some reason, it's on the very last page, separate from all the other items, after the "FCC Regulations" and "Limited Warranty" pages. Also, the manual says those spinning pig enemies are called Pooters, which made me laugh. And the little fairies that come out of the eggs are called "honey girls" for some reason?
