Nariman's Ariana Grande superfan has the giggle ready

The ponytail, covered hands and ambitious high note make a complete character, but viewers keep coming back to the laugh.

Asked to name her favorite artist, Nariman's character makes Ariana Grande sound like a casual choice. The giggle, the ponytail fiddling and the sweatshirt pulled over her hands suggest considerably more preparation.

It's a comedy sketch about an Ariana superfan, not an appearance by the singer. "Everyone says we look alike. But I don't see it," Nariman says, before abruptly attempting an exaggerated whistle note. The Short has drawn more than 400,000 views before its first full day, already several times the channel's usual first-day audience for the format.

The joke isn't just about singing. Nariman keeps switching between apparently bashful conversation and little demonstrations of her character's devotion. Even dimples become something to work on, with a makeup brush handle pressed into her cheek.

In the comments, viewers single out the giggle, the voice crack and the high note. Some connect the laugh and sleeve-covered hands to Cat Valentine, Grande's character in Victorious and Sam & Cat. For a sketch whose title is only hashtags, those small performance details give viewers plenty to recognize.
