Fast fashion and weekend plans: Emma's three speaking lessons on mmmEnglish
A persuasive-speaking class built around consumerism opened the week, and two short small-talk drills about weekends followed it.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Advanced Speaking Practice (Persuasive Techniques)
More than 270 million lifetime views sit behind mmmEnglish, and they were earned one lesson at a time, the way this week went too: three uploads, each a chance to talk along with Emma.
The longest of them, "Advanced Speaking Practice (Persuasive Techniques)," picks a subject she clearly cares about, fast fashion and consumerism, and uses it to teach how to take a side and say so with feeling. It follows her familiar imitation method in three steps: just listen, repeat after me, then shadow me. It ends by asking learners what they feel passionate about. With close to 25,000 views in a week, it is the most watched of the three, and its tags point at IELTS candidates as well as everyday speakers.
Then the tone softened. Two short small-talk drills followed, one answering "How was your weekend?" and one answering "What are you up to this weekend?" The second is barely a day old, and it is already gathering views faster than either of its siblings. Perhaps a Friday-sized question simply suits the end of a week.
Among the education channels nearest her in size, Tom Scott is the one having the big stretch, running at several times his usual pace, while Simplilearn and RealLifeLore are also busier than normal. Emma's channel, with its 6.4 million subscribers, sits seventh of nine in that group, and its students keep practicing their weekend answers out loud.
