'24 Hours in France' turns Mathew Matos Gillingwater into a duck

The two-day-old short is closing in on 900,000 views, the biggest of fourteen uploads that also took in Freshers Week and a boy learning to look girly.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Mathew Matos Gillingwater has passed 615 million total views, and the short that pushed hardest toward that line spends a single day in France and comes out the other side as something closer to waterfowl.

"24 Hours in France" went up on October 4 and pulled in close to 600,000 views in its first day. The premise is in the title: an accent that thickens hour by hour. The comments map the slide almost scene by scene. One viewer counts it off from normal to a little accented to Donald Duck, others hear a turn toward a well-known American politician somewhere in the middle, and plenty ask whether he became French or a zombie by the end. The most liked note comes from someone who says this is exactly what their whole French family sounds like, and a few French speakers answer back in French.

It was a crowded week, fourteen uploads in all. "The Only Straight Boy in the Group" grew steadily to around 700,000 after a slower start. "How to look girly (as a boy)" and "Boys Dress Like Girls!" kept up his habit of playing with gender, and "Uni Freshers Week" went back to student life. Two newer shorts, "The Only Gay in the Family" and "if Cocktails were Human," are already moving quickly a day after going up.

The channel as a whole ran below its usual daily pace and added about 4,000 subscribers. Among the comedy sketch channels close to his size, he sat in the middle for views gained. Biggy Bailey and Kountry Wayne had the big weeks, and Tyler Warwick and Brian Moller were among the quiet ones.
