Epic's launcher-speed pitch meets Steam's always-open crowd
A commentary clip on Legendary Drops prompts a practical question: how much does startup speed matter when players leave the app running?
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,243,172 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (109,848).
Epic mogged by Steam yet again
Legendary Drops has posted a gaming commentary clip about saving seconds, and viewers have a ready answer: Steam is already open on their computers.
The clip centers on Epic Games promoting its launcher's speed. An unnamed host laughs at a Reddit user's dismissive comparison, then points to a VideoCardz headline reporting that Steam's client launches faster than Epic's new launcher. The clips channel's upload drew an estimated 1.2 million views in its first day, roughly eleven times its usual Shorts start.
The more interesting response is less about which app opens first than whether players notice. Several commenters say Steam starts with their computer and stays in the background, ready whenever they want a game. For them, shaving time off that opening is solving a problem they barely encounter.
Others question the sequence presented in the clip, saying Steam's speed update arrived before Epic's announcement, rather than afterward. Those comments challenge the timing; they do not establish it.
Steam and the business of PC gaming are familiar subjects on Legendary Drops, whose popular uploads include commentary on Microsoft and in-game advertising. This time, the channel also has a separate fast-starting Short titled "Deadlock May Be The Best Game of 2020s": another Valve-related subject, but one focused on the game rather than the software used to reach it.
