JJEverettRose's newest sketch had been up for eleven hours when it passed half a million views. On this channel a new video usually spends its whole first day reaching a crowd about forty times smaller.
The joke is one almost everyone who has flown somewhere sunny will recognize. You notice a person at the gate. They turn up on your flight, then by the hotel pool, then at the next restaurant, then everywhere you go for the rest of the week. The creator behind the Year 7s, the posh kids and Henry the weird kid has built a channel on this kind of small, shared, slightly awkward moment, and here he takes it on holiday.
It also keeps a travel thread going. Four days earlier he posted "Airports With Parents Vs Friends," which was the busiest thing on the channel when we wrote about it, as we reported here. The new sketch has already left it well behind.
The comment section reads like a collection of confessions. Viewers tell of spotting the same family on two different holidays, of meeting a flight attendant again a year later, and of a holiday stranger who turned out to work at the shop back home. One viewer says the family they kept bumping into lived a few doors down, and they now spend Christmas together. Others point out how the character grows more alarmed with every sighting, and one wonders whether the world's designer simply ran out of new characters and started reusing old ones.
