Jimmy Carr's classic jokes have viewers discussing the shock

The quick-starting compilation prompts a conversation about deliberate offense and the contrast with Carr's more reflective side.

A selection of classic Jimmy jokes... #jimmycarr #comedy #standup #jokes

The classics moved quickly. Jimmy Carr's latest joke compilation drew more than 300,000 views within nine hours, already several times the audience his Shorts usually attract over a full first day.

Billed as "A selection of classic Jimmy jokes...", the upload puts his familiar compact, deadpan comedy in the spotlight. The comments are considerably busier than on a typical first day, and some viewers are discussing the mechanism behind the punch lines: for Carr, provoking shock is part of the point, rather than an accidental side effect.

Others draw a distinction between the stand-up and his more thoughtful conversations about everyday life. It's a revealing contrast for a comedian whose stage persona often leaves very little space between the setup and the uncomfortable turn.

His channel's other uploads offer a different flavor of comedy alongside the collection. One features Sean Lock comparing Mo Farah's Olympic celebration to a badly executed teapot, a reminder that this archive has room for an absurd visual comparison as well as Carr's sharper one-liners.
