Wolverhampton's 'Through Ball Freestyle' keeps JDZmedia's Midlands catalog moving
Seven MCs, including Breeza, J Man and X-O Bally aka Nastee, share a beat by producer Silencer on a two-month-old clip that has passed 10,000 views.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Breeza, J Man, Reepa, Bigz, MG, Sarge, X-O Bally aka Nastee, - Through Ball Freestyle | JDZ
JDZmedia, the Birmingham music platform whose about page reads simply "Discover new artists," put up nothing new over the seven days. The catalog barely noticed: a usual day here brings in somewhere over 26,000 views, and that is roughly what each day brought this time too, about 200,000 across the week.
The video doing the most of that work is a freestyle from up the road. "Breeza, J Man, Reepa, Bigz, MG, Sarge, X-O Bally aka Nastee, - Through Ball Freestyle | JDZ" went up a little over two months ago, and the description calls it a cold one from the Wolverhampton crew, with Silencer on production. Seven names in one title, and it is still picking up more views a day than anything else on the channel.
Behind it sit two older pieces. KeedaKey's "[BERAW]" is well over two years old. "The Call Up (Live)" is a recording of a Birmingham grime night hosted by DJ Big Mikee, with Jaykae at the front of a stacked lineup that included Mayhem, Sox, C4 and Novelist. Novelist, the Lewisham MC whose debut album was nominated for the Mercury Prize, makes it a London name on a Brum bill, and the description signs off with "Birmingham to the world."
Among music platforms and labels of a similar size, JDZmedia is one of the calmer corners. P110, its fellow champion of regional UK rap, and BrettYoungVEVO are the busy ones, while Amazon Music is running at about half its usual pace. JDZmedia simply held its line.
