Pawned Souls to Memoirium: Steam Dumpster Diving's 35th dig carries Iron Pineapple's pause
Two weeks old and nearing two million views, the episode runs through eight obscure souls-likes, with shar along for one of them.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
I played 8 Souls-Like games you've never heard of
What do you watch on Iron Pineapple's channel when nothing new goes up? Episode 35 of Steam Dumpster Diving, it turns out. The channel posted nothing this week, and the newest dig through the corners of Steam, "I played 8 Souls-Like games you've never heard of," is doing most of the work at two weeks old, already close to two million views.
The formula has not changed, and that is the appeal. The description promises, once again, even more souls-likes you probably have not heard of, and the chapter list runs from Pawned Souls and Fatekeeper to Beast of Reincarnation, a game called simply FISH, and Spire of Chaos. Fellow creator shar joins him in Memoirium, and GoogleyGareth animated the intro. The whole thing runs well over an hour and a half, which is roughly what regulars expect.
A detour from the formula sits right behind it. "I played CONTROL Resonant," ten days old, opens with a short story recap before he gets into Remedy's world, a studio better known for paranormal office corridors than for rolling through bonfire-style checkpoints. And episode 34, from August, with Mortal Shell 2 and BREKEKEKEX on its list, is still picking up views.
With no upload to push it, daily views are running below the channel's usual pace, about a third under. Among the gaming commentary channels near his size, Max0r and Super Eyepatch Wolf are in a similar lull, while Digital Foundry and BeatEmUps are having busier weeks than usual. The channel's about line says some people think his Dark Souls videos are funny; this week, those people went back to the dumpster.
