Dean Potter's 'The Dark Wizard' trailer keeps HBO climbing
No new uploads on HBO's channel, and a six-month-old trailer about the climber and BASE jumper is its busiest video, near 600,000 views.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The Dark Wizard | HBO | Trailer
Among the TV networks and streaming services of similar size, HBO sits sixth of nine by subscribers, just above its sister channel HBO Max, which keeps running at millions of views a day. South Park Studios is having a slightly busier stretch than usual, and E! is a touch above its normal pace too.
HBO itself posted nothing new, so the momentum belongs to its documentary trailers. The busiest is "The Dark Wizard | HBO | Trailer," from directors Peter Mortimer and Nick Rosen, a portrait of Dean Potter that the description bills as the most influential and controversial climber, BASE jumper and highline walker of his time. Potter died in 2015 in a wingsuit flight in Yosemite, and he was known for free soloing and walking highlines without a tether. His trailer went up about six months ago and still draws a steady trickle of new views every day.
Behind it come two summer releases: "The Man Will Burn," Jehane Noujaim and Vikram Gandhi's four-part look behind the scenes at Burning Man, and Questlove's Earth, Wind & Fire documentary, the channel's biggest of the three by total views. The subscriber count held perfectly still.
