"When fast is still not fast enough 😂" is the newest short on GUGUGAMER, a channel built on football sketches and parodies that turn the sport's best-known players into comic characters. Sixteen hours after it went up, it had about three million views, more than a hundred times what a short there usually gathers on its first day.
The premise is simple. However hard Lamine Yamal trains his speed, someone is always one step ahead. The description teases the reader about who that someone might be without saying it, though the tags lean heavily on Erling Haaland, and it promises a final reaction at the very end. The joke has a real footballing root. Yamal made his name at Barcelona by running at defenders, and Haaland is known for covering ground at a pace that seems unlikely for a striker his size.
As we reported here, the channel's giant-spoon short, in which the parody Yamal raids the parody Haaland's Oreo ice cream, passed a million views in seventeen hours. It has kept climbing since, and is now well past one and a half million. The shorts posted around these two, among them a Minion lollipop Haaland cannot hear about through his headphones, a never-ending banana and a cucumber sheet mask, mostly sit in the tens of thousands. That makes two breakouts in a row.
The comment section is small but already busier than usual, and so far it is mostly laughing emojis. Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappé turn up now and then, in a beach taste test of club-themed ice cream bars, but the act that carries this channel is a pair: Yamal and Haaland, taking turns at getting the last laugh.
