A 22-minute stoppage-time penalty, and a seagull, for FutbolEssence

"It Was Never A Penalty 💔" passed 2.6 million views in six days, and its comments are busy correcting which country the match came from.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

It Was Never A Penalty 💔It Was Never A Penalty 💔

Among the football channels close to FutbolEssence in size, none gathered more views over the week, and the gap is wide. The clips channel, which edits other people's football footage into Shorts, added around 23 million views in seven days. Zedsnap, next in line, managed about half that, while The Rest Is Football and Rory Jennings ran far below their usual pace.

Three new Shorts went up, and the one doing the most work is "It Was Never A Penalty 💔". It shows a spot kick given deep into stoppage time with no clear foul, and the comment section has turned into a fact-checking desk. The caption calls it Argentina, and Argentine viewers write back that it is Bolivian football, that the crest shown belongs to Independiente, and that the goalkeeper let the penalty in on purpose as a protest. Others are stuck on the clock: 22 minutes into added time, when the board seemed to promise six.

"Ancelloti Couldn't Believe It 😂" made the quicker start, with about 670,000 views on its first day. The newest arrival, "When Players Saved A Seagull ❤️‍🩹", is a gentler kind of football moment, and it nearly matched the penalty clip's daily pace within a day of going up.

About 12,000 new subscribers arrived over the week, carrying the channel just past half a million. Views ran a little below its usual daily pace, which for a channel this busy still means millions a day.

What viewers say

  • 22min and says 6 😂
  • Im from Argentina, And that was in the Bolivian league. Why didn't the goalkeeper save the penalty? Because, as you saw in the video, there was never any foul. That's why the goalkeeper didn't save the penalty as a form of protest.
