Airport fire trucks arch water over the Brewers' charter before anyone has even stepped off it. A Brewers flag waves from the cockpit window. "Your National League Championship winners are back in Milwaukee," studio anchor Ben tells viewers as the plane taxis up to Mitchell International Airport on Friday night.

FOX6 News Milwaukee stayed live for the whole arrival, about thirteen minutes of it, after the Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. There is no game footage here, only the homecoming. Manager Pat Murphy comes down the stairs carrying his own luggage, owner Mark Attanasio follows, and then the players: Garrett Mitchell, Brandon Woodruff, William Contreras, Jackson Chourio, Christian Yelich. Ben singles out "the Miz," whom he calls the tallest guy on the team.

As we reported here last week, the city was already wearing homemade bottle-cap hats for the NLCS. This time the team gets headwear too: staff hand out World Series winter knit hats at the bottom of the stairs. Viewers note the timing. The weather that greeted the plane was far colder than the week's game days.

Reporter Kim Murphy is told on the tarmac that there will be no interviews, and the players board buses that leave under a police escort. She closes with the line that sums up the night: it has been 44 years since Milwaukee had a World Series team. In 1982 that team played in the American League. This one goes as National League champion.

The comments filled up with congratulations from outside Wisconsin. Dodgers fans praise Murphy's managing, and supporters of the Giants, Phillies and Astros say they are adopting Milwaukee for the Series. One viewer admits they nearly went to the airport and found the broadcast the warmer choice.
