Esfand calls WoW Forever's dungeons 'one-time content,' and the tanks speak up

His breakdown of dungeon experience in the beta drew a comment section full of players who level by tanking and healing, and want a reason to go back in.

Why this story? The video drew 2,088 comments in its first day, 5.6 times a normal first day on this channel (374).

Esfand's complaint is about what a dungeon is worth. In "WoW Forever Is Turning Dungeons Into One-Time Content," the longtime World of Warcraft streamer and OTK co-founder looks at how much leveling experience in the beta comes from a dungeon's quests rather than its monsters. His argument is that once the quests are done, a second run, with loot already scarce, barely pays for the time.

The viewing figures were ordinary for his channel. The comments were not. More than 2,000 arrived in the first day, over five times what one of his regular videos usually gets.

The loudest voices belong to people who like the group roles. A protection warrior writes that he plays Classic for the love of tanking. A player with a holy paladin explains that healing is simply how she levels her, and would accept going slower than questing, just not this much slower. Others share memories of farming early dungeons for a staff, or learning to heal there. Several want boosting kept in check and still ask for a middle ground, one where asking friends to help with a dungeon they have already finished does not feel like a burden.

The beta is keeping Esfand busy in other ways too. A Duskwood world PvP clip went up the next day, along with streams preparing for his $100,000 WoW Forever dueling tournament on October 17.

What viewers say

  • Dungeon running is such an important learning experience at low levels. It needs to be encouraged and therefore rewarded
    @ActuallyWoogieSee it on YouTube
  • As a prot warrior who plays classic because he just loves being a tank, dungeon nerfs feel bad 😭
  • There has got to be some middle-ground of xp that makes running a dungeon where you don't get any gear NOT feel like a waste of time while also making it not the most efficient min-max way to level. I don't want to feel guilty asking friends to help me with a dungeon I need when they've already done the quests.
