Eight strange and dark cases close Dire Trip's two-upload week as a million nears

The Sunday compilation opens with a case built around a custody ruling, and it went up days after a long look at a fatal car crash.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Kyle, the host of Dire Trip, posted two videos this week. Both are about deaths that should not have happened.

The first, on Wednesday, was "The Hated Furry Who Ended Up Killing Two People," a single-case deep dive of the kind the channel is known for. The title and the conversation underneath show what it covers: a crash in which the driver survived and two of his passengers did not. Many viewers keep returning to the same details from the telling, especially his driving and the new car it involved. Others focus on how much the people involved had posted about their lives online afterward. The description notes that the episode is also out in podcast form. It has passed 600,000 views and is the week's most watched upload.

The second arrived on Sunday: "Mom And Grandma Killed the Kids Because Dad Got Custody | 8 Strange and Dark Cases," one of the channel's multi-case compilations. It is barely half a day old and is already the channel's quickest-moving video by a wide margin. Still drawing a steady audience as well is "The Truth Behind the San Diego Mosque Shooting," posted a little over a week ago and now nearing a million views.

Overall the channel had a slower stretch than usual, with daily views well below its normal level, while it keeps adding subscribers at a steady pace. It sits in the middle of the true crime and courts group by size, a few steps below the million mark. Among its neighbors, Willie D Live is running ahead of its own usual, and Mike Rafi's personal injury channel continues to draw the largest audiences in the group by far.
