CBN, the network Pat Robertson started in Virginia in 1960, usually moves at a steady, unhurried pace. On this day it drew more than half a million views, roughly ten times its norm. It is not clear what set that off. None of its five newest uploads has yet passed about 100,000 views, so the crowd came from somewhere else on the channel.
The newest upload is "Once You Understand THIS, You'll See The World Very Differently," a teaching by Gordon Robertson, Pat's son and the network's chief executive. He works through Genesis 1:26-31, the verses about humanity made in God's image. He reads the command to have dominion over the earth as a call to stewardship rather than control, drawing on Scripture and ancient Jewish teaching. A week earlier he took viewers to the Feast of Tabernacles in ancient Jerusalem, from the water-drawing at the Pool of Siloam to Hezekiah's tunnel, to explain Jesus' words about living water.
The network's Israel Live series is its most watched recent work. In it, former Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann and CBN's Erin Zimmerman marked the anniversary of October 7 with stories of survivors and recovery, a week after an episode on Saudi Arabia's new partnerships and the Houthi threat.
The smallest of the five may be the most curious. The trailer for "ORACLES OF GOD: Creating the Canon" asks who decided which books belong in the Bible, and it sets out to separate the popular belief that the Council of Nicaea settled the question from the longer history behind it.
