GM Hess returns to Chess.com's Titled Tuesday broadcast

The tournament stream shares an eight-upload week with Hikaru reactions and a GothamChess guessing prompt.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Hess is back. Chess.com's Titled Tuesday broadcast put GM Robert Hess in the commentary seat, with a perfect-score bounty adding an extra incentive to the weekly tournament for titled players. The stream drew roughly 122,000 views, most arriving during its first day.

The week's largest new audience, though, went to a much smaller piece of tournament theater. "Hikaru Is CONFUSED At Magnus Losing 😅" is approaching 400,000 views. Nakamura walks up to Carlsen's board, looks down and grimaces; an edited stopwatch makes his rapid reaction the whole story. Commenters turn that expression into an imaginary evaluation service, joking about waiting for Hikaru to inspect their own boards. Others point out how familiar the clip is, a reminder that a well-timed chess face can have several lives.

Across eight uploads, the online chess platform also made room for community footage, another Nakamura highlight and a theatrical-screening announcement for the documentary Grandmasters. The newer "Chess EVERYWHERE 🏖️ can GothamChess find THIS game? 😂" is currently drawing the most daily views of any upload on the channel. An earlier Candidates video about Sindarov remains active too.

Subscribers held steady, while daily viewing sits a little above the channel's usual level. Among nearby sports channels, Australian Open had a much larger weekly audience and added subscribers; Wimbledon also held its subscriber count steady. For Chess.com, the week's distinctive pairing was Hess's longer tournament broadcast and Nakamura's nearly wordless board-side reaction.
