Vancouver's projected Green first punctuates CBC's B.C. election night
CBC projects Pete Fry as Vancouver's first Green mayor as its province-wide municipal election broadcast draws an unusually large audience.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 76,160 views a day, 18 times a normal first day on this channel (4,225).
BC Votes Municipal 2026
Lien Yeung and Stephen Quinn have more than mayoral results to follow. CBC British Columbia's "BC Votes Municipal 2026" covers elections across 161 municipalities, with councils, school boards and, in some places, park boards also on the ballot.
Joined by Jason D'Souza, Chris Walker and Justin McElroy, the hosts present live coverage and analysis as results arrive from across the province. The broadcast drew roughly 76,000 views in its first day, about eighteen times the channel's usual start for longer videos.
Vancouver supplies a notable result: CBC News projects Pete Fry to become the city's first Green mayor, defeating incumbent Ken Sim. Separate uploads cover that projection and Sim's concession speech, in which he thanks supporters and congratulates the winning candidates.
The channel also carries the conversation beyond the count. In "After the Vote: B.C. Municipal Election 2026," Margaret Gallagher and Tanya Fletcher host reaction and analysis, opening the phone lines for residents to discuss the future of their cities.
