Kenan Thompson knows what he would say to Shane Gillis about his SNL monologue. In a clip from an Axios panel, the show's veteran cast member pictures a quiet talk: "I would just sit him down and be like, 'Yeah, so what do you think we could change there, pal?'"
Asmongold, watching on stream, does not think the talk is needed. The edit, posted to the official clips channel that he owns and Daily Dose of Asmongold runs, drew roughly 1.5 million views since yesterday. Gillis had already been the recurring subject of the channel's week, as we reported here. This upload adds the first response from inside SNL itself.
The joke at the center is Gillis's line about how women dress at the gym. Thompson talks about harmful words, and he and the panel host suggest audiences look at the rest of the cast and the episode's guests instead of fixating on one bit. Asmongold pauses the clip to argue the reverse: the joke is the reason people are still talking about the episode at all. "The chokehold these people had on culture is long gone," he says.
From there the reaction moves on. Joe Rogan appears in a clip scoffing at Casey Anthony for criticizing the monologue online. A comedian at The Hollywood Comedy then mocks Gillis's premise by comparing gym clothes with what people wear at a pool, and Asmongold answers in four words, the line that gives this piece its headline.
The comment section came in busier than the channel's usual first day, and most of it takes up one question: whether Gillis needs SNL, or the other way around.
