The Most "Normal" GTA Game: Any Austin's newest passes a million in a day
One long video and one merch short made the week, and three of the channel's busiest videos are now all Grand Theft Auto.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The Most "Normal" GTA Game
Any Austin went looking for the most "normal" game in the Grand Theft Auto series, and the question found a crowd fast. The new video passed 1.2 million views in its first 24 hours and was near a million and a half by its second day. The scare quotes in the title do some work: this is a channel that bills itself, with a straight face, as the worst video game shows on the internet.
The video's credits list a small team: Austin up front, with Ashlyn K on operations, William H as lead editor, Luke D as creative associate and Sadie W on art and assets. The only other upload was a short, posted on September 25, announcing a last day to order merch before it is gone.
The new video joins a GTA run that is still moving. "GTA5 Has Rivers You've Never Seen," a month old, has passed 7.6 million views and keeps drawing viewers every day. "GTA: San Andreas Really Takes You Places," a road trip built to test whether San Andreas really is the best game in the series, is close behind it in daily pull at nearly three months old. Perhaps the newcomers from the latest video will drift back to both.
Across the whole channel, daily views ran a bit under the usual level. Among the gaming commentary channels near its size, that is a common picture: Max0r and Iron Pineapple are quieter than usual too, while Digital Foundry is having a busier stretch.
